I  founded Stephens & Associates on July 28, 2000, vowing that a few key principles would govern how my firm would be run.

First, the long list of standard procedures, the hefty policy manuals and the secretive client committees that govern life in our nation’s very large law firms typically exist for one reason: the benefit of the law firms. Mostly, they interfere with a lawyer’s ability to serve his client and are at least partly responsible for the low consideration most people have for lawyers. So every client who comes to my firm gets personal and individual consideration and treatment.The architect in solo practice might need one thing.The real estate broker with offices in three states likely needs another. At this firm, they can both get what they want.

Second, the best lawyers are usually both humble and human.They know that their advice can directly affect quality of life. So lawyers who come to work for this firm are all expected to have the guts to put themselves into their cases.Many of our clients are familiar with our trademark statement:
“If I was in your shoes, here’s what I would do.”
(It’s a sign that we have thought carefully about what it means to be in your shoes.
)
Third, honor and honesty are among the highest values a person can carry. We want your respect before we want anything else. So if you’re a client, or opposing counsel, or a judge, or a witness in a case, if you’re dealing with this firm – whether it’s a partner or a paralegal – you’re getting honest, straight talk.

Finally, civility and old-fashioned politeness are essential to a successful and satisfying law practice. I have found that a few kind words and a sincere interest in the well-being of others make our world a much better place to be.
